In this lecture, Prof. Maurizio Andolfi describes different modalities to use the family genogram in therapy as well as in professional training. The genogram. introduced in the field by Murray Bowen in the late 60’s, has been used universally as the best description of family development in the span of several generations.
In the Andolfi’s multigenerational approach, the genogram has been developed as a special tool – diagnostic as well as therapeutic – in family exploration either in individual as well as in couple and family therapy and children are “expert guides” to enter into the family system. Several clinical vignettes are shown to demonstrate how the genogram can make family history and relevant family events alive, allowing bonds’ repair and intergenerational transformation.
Same results are described when the genogram is used for training purposes in presence as well as online. Together with the genogram, is outlined the use of the map of the world to go back to family roots and the passage to action with the use of space and family sculping.
