Being Yourself – Authenticity and Creativity in Family Therapy

In this lecture, Prof. Maurizio Andolfi describes the deeply human experience of the healing process in family therapy. This is possible when therapists are able to get rid of their professional mask and to get in touch with their inner self in order to attune to the suffering brought to therapy by individuals and troubled families. In order to achieve this goal, therapists have to learn how to use themselves fully, transforming their professional handicaps in therapeutic resources. Exploring their family genograms, sculpting family relationships, role playing are great opportunities for transformation and growth. Authenticity, creativity, relational questioning, attentive listening, body language and movement are outlined as the main tools in therapy and the vehicle for knowledge and transformation in families. Videoclips of a family consultation are included to show how the anger of a child can become the door to discover family dramas and to repair intergenerational fractures.
