Maurizio Andolfi shares the wisdom he has gained over fifty years of personal and professional life experiences, and chronicles his learning from the giants of family therapy.
This book highlights the deeply human experience of the healing process which is only possible when therapists are able to get rid of their professional mask in order to attune to the suffering brought to therapy by individuals and troubled families.
The therapeutic project is the search for authenticity and mutual understanding, which becomes a reciprocal Gift of Truth when the inner self of the therapist encounters the self of the other, breaking the fences of social and conventional roles.
Relational questioning, attentive listening, body language and movement are outlined as the main tools in therapy and the vehicle for knowledge and transformation in families. It describes the learning process for therapists to develop critical thinking skills and discover creativity and how to utilise their personal and professional resources fully in therapy. To reach this goal the acquisition of an inner supervisor enables a profound inner dialogue and a space for reflection that can help to unblock impasses and guide therapists in difficult therapeutic situations.
