In this Master Series, Prof. Maurizio Andolfi uses his multigenerational lens to ex- plore the story of an Italian/South African couple. Their crisis is exacerbated by the empty nest syndrome – twins children left home recently – and the emotional overdependency of Giorgio from his own mother, a widow who has the full care of a disable son. On the other side, the wife Corinne left South Africa for love, misses her family tremendously, feels still as a “foreigner” in Giorgio’s family of origin and is very alone because husband, a cardiologist, is very busy with his work.
In the first part of the meeting, the main issues of the couple are explored in the frame of each partner’s family and cultural development. A special session with the presence of Giorgio’s mother is strongly recommended as well as an online meeting with Corinne’s mother. In order to reach these goals, the twins grown-up children of the couple are invited as therapeutic resources and the next session with the four of them is described in Part 2.
The true history of this couple is played by two actors who are able to simulate and identify with each partner and outline their conflicts as well as their desire to change.
